MAT 170 Trig Project. Exploring trig functions with your graphing calculator!
Directions. When the direction say graph, the graphs you submit should be very carefully sketched.
If only one interval is given, it is the x interval and it is your responsibility to get the y interval. When two intervals are given, the first is the x interval and the second is the y interval.

1. Graph y = sin x on [0, 2p ]

2. Graph y = x on [0, 2p ].

3.     a. Graph y = x + sin x on [0, 2p ].

        b. Graph y = x + sin x on [- 100, 100].

        c. Verbalize what is happening ...

4.     a. Graph y = x sin x on [- 30, 30] by [- 30, 30].

        b. Graph the following on the same set of axes from [- 30, 30] by [- 30, 30]

                    y = x (sketch in red)    y = - x (sketch in red)        y = x sin x (sketch in blue)

        c. Verbalize what is happening ...

5. Graph with an appropriate window for y = e - x sin x and discuss the end behavior.

6.     a. Graph y = 2 sin x from [ - 2p , 2p ].

        b. What is the range?

        c. Algebraically, answer this question, "Why does the graph of y = e - xsin x have that range?

7.     a. Graph y = sin (2x) + cos (3x) on [ - 10, 10] by [ - 3, 3].

        b. Find the period.

8.     a. Graph y = 0.04 sin (880p x) on the following x intervals:  [0,1], [0, 2], [0, 2.9], [0, 3], [0, 3.1]

        b. If I told you this equation modeled a sound wave, why would all of these views all look so different?

        c. Graph one period. HINT: start on [0, 0.005] and go from there.

9.     a. Graph one period of y = sin (400p x) + 0.5 sin (800p x) + 2 HINT: start with [0, 0.01]

        b. What is the range.
